Cookin Soul Presents: Michael Jackson (Tribute to the King of Pop)

5 07 2009

The promise on this one was to keep the original Michael Jackson songs in tact and add rappers verses to it in hopes of making it a street banger. First we have Kid Cudi’s “Day N Nite” verse on MJ’s “Beat It.” The sped up vocals and overall demeanor just didn’t mesh well with Mike’s “gangsta” hit. But CS bounced back with back-to-back bangers when he threw in 50’s 2nd verse from “Like My Style” over “Remember The Time” and made something that’ll have the dance floor violating countless fire codes and paired Luda with “Bad” to create something pretty damn decent. Not to mention blending Wayne’s verse with the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” Went together like peanut butter and jelly on a roll.

While I was disappointed with a few blends like Em’s “Real Slim Shady” verse tacked on to “Black or White” and Biggie’s “Nasty Boy” verse mixed into “Thriller” (“Rock With You” was pretty hot though), I was feeling the majority of the blends and the fact that this was a Michael Jackson mixtape. The blends were made to compliment his classics, not the other way around. CS didn’t try to add Neptunes production or a T-Pain hook into any of these songs. It was all Mike all day and until the end of time. Though Michael wasn’t the perfect human being, he was more than your average one. He was a showman who not only changed lives but literally changed the world through his music and his life. I just hope he finds the peace in his death that he could never find in his life. R.I.P. Eminem Gets Robbed In Hotel Room!

3 06 2009

Eminem is not having a good week. The Michigan-born rapper had thousands of dollars worth of items stolen from his L.A. hotel room on Sunday night, including a $60K diamond necklace and his personal laptop.

Thankfully, Em’s new album, “Relapse,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart – selling a whopping 608,000 copies in its first week – so he’ll have the funds to recover what he lost.

But he couldn’t have been happy about the live concert launch of “DJ Hero” on Monday night in L.A., either. There, the hip-hopper met with tepid reactions following a performance with Jay-Z.

“When Eminem rapped with Jay, the crowd loved it,” said one eyewitness. “But when he continued on his own and did songs off his new album, the energy just died. People were pumped to see him, but he wasn’t interacting with his fans. His performance was mechanical, without a lot of personality, and people were pretty disappointed.”

Said a second partygoer, “After Eminem finished his set, he left the stage and was waiting on the sidelines, hoping that the crowd would cheer so that he’d have to do an encore. Unfortunately for him, that didn’t happen – people started to file out before his set was even done, and didn’t seem to really care if he came back or not. So he didn’t.”

Added our insider, “There was no mention of Saturday’s MTV Movie Awards [when Sacha Baron Cohen rubbed his crotch in Eminem's face] at all.”

And while the rapper didn’t seem to be in the best spirits, his fellow celebrity partygoers had a blast. Leonardo DiCaprio, Usher, Tobey Maguire and Ryan Phillippe rocked out in the front row pretending to rap, and pop starlet Rihanna waved her hands in the air and sang along to mentor Jay-Z’s entire set.

Eminem Responds To Nick Cannon!

19 05 2009

Marshall Mathers has reached out to Nick Cannon on Tim Westwood’s radio show after Cannon’s recent blog about his problems with Eminem.

There’s a line on there that was a little harsh. It’s a harsh line. … But it’s like this, the way I look at it: I had no idea he was gonna take it like he took it. I had no idea Nick Cannon was gonna start wildin’ out on me. No pun intended.”

I heard about some of the things he was saying. I didn’t read his blog or anything. But it is what it is. He’s supposed to defend his wife, and I expected him to do that. But at the end of the day, it’s a line I said; it’s a song. What I actually meant to say is, I wish them the best. That’s what I meant to say. That’s the whole message of the record,” he added.

He went on to say that he hopes it doesn’t escalate to a battle between the two.

Eminem’s Relapse Leaks – Controversy Starts

10 05 2009

It took less than 24 hours since the leak of Eminem’s highly anticipated comeback effort Relapse to generate some controversy. Nick Cannon  has taken issue with Eminem’s “Bagpipes From Baghdad,” which takes shots at Cannon and his wife, singer Mariah Carey.

In a new blog posting, Cannon responds to the track saying, “I’m taking full action on you Eminem. I don’t know why no one has stood up to your bitch ass yet. But I guess it’s going to take a corny, wack rapping, boy toy from Nickelodeon to set you straight. And trust, I am going to be relentless. Even though I got a lot of other obligations and occupations, you are my new full time job ‘homey’!”

Cannon concludes by implying that whatever beef develops may be handled outside of a studio. “This is my invitation to you, whenever and wherever you like sir. So when you come out of your introverted hiding place and ask your bodyguards if you can go out and play by yourself, I’m here Pimp”
