Common is returning to his roots. After linking with The Neptunes for the majority of last year’s dance friendly Universal Mind Control, the Chi-town MC is reuniting with Kanye West and No I.D. for his ninth studio album, The Believer.
During the benefit show for his Common Ground Foundation over the weekend, Com told XXLMag.com that he has already recorded tracks with Kanye and No I.D. for the project, which he expects to hit stores sometime next spring.
No I.D. has been producing songs for the rapper/actor ever since Com first broke out onto the scene in 1992 with Can I Borrow A Dollar? He went on to produce the majority of Common’s next two albums: Resurrection and One Day It’ll All Make Sense.
Along with signing the fellow Chicago resident to his G.O.O.D. Music imprint, Kanye produced the bulk of Com’s highest selling album 2005’s Be, as well as 2007’s Finding Forever.
Common also said he has been in the studio with beatsmith Twilite Tone, who he hasn’t worked with since One Day It’ll All Make Sense. Like I.D. Twilite also produced a lot of songs on Com’s debut.

Kanye West is best known for his musical abilities. However, Mr.West has also branched out into various other endeavors including work in fashion and film. Now, he has linked up with philosopher/author J. Sakiya Sandifer to release “Thank You and You’re Welcome.”
West aknowledged that Sandifer was the inspiration behind the book from the jump.
“He inspired the format of the book, because he wrote a book called ’Think, Think, Think and Think Again.’ [He did] bullet points in bold graphics, and he expounded upon them … whereas books hide the main points chapters in. You have to read so much to get so much out of it. We wanted to make it simple for people who are non-readers, who don’t feel like doing all that, and still get the point across” he toldMTV.com. After taking the more simple aproach to the book, another one may be in the works. However, it will not be a second installment of a series.
“It’s just gonna be another collection of our ideas and theories,” Sandifer added.“It’s not gonna be like ’Thank You and You’re Welcome Volume Two.’ I think that would be limiting.” In a statement, West added what this book was all about.
“My book is a guide to creating then celebrating your moment.”
Currently the book can be picked up on Kanye’s site for only ten dollars. The book will hit store shelves July 7.
The nominees for the ninth annual BET Awards were announced earlier today (May 12) during a live taping of 106 & Park.
Atlanta rap giant T.I. leads the rap honorees with three nods. The self-proclaimed “King of the South” is up against Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Young Jeezy and Rick Ross in the best male hip-hop category, while his clip for “Live Your Life” is also competing with Ye in the video of the year category for the Chi-Town MC’s animated “Heartless” video. Tip is going head to head with T-Pain, Soulja Boy, Keri Hilson and Beyonce for the coveted viewers choice award.
Lil Mama is battling M.I.A. and Trina in the best female hip-hop artist category. XXL Freshman Kid Cudi is up against Keri Hilson, M.I.A., Ryan Leslie, Jazmine Sullivan and Keri Hilson for best new artist. Benny Boom, Rik Cordero, Gil Green, Chris Robinson and Hype Williams are all up for video director of the year.
Moving on to the big screen, Chicago rapper turned thespian Common is nominated for best male actor along with Samuel L. Jackson, Idris Elba, Will Smith and Jamal Woolard. Former DreamgirlsBeyonce and Jennifer Hudson will battle it out for best female actor as well as Rosario Dawson, Taraji P. Henson and Angela Bassett, who portrayed Biggie’s mother in the rapper’s biopic Notorious.
The 2009 BET Awards will be hosted by Jamie Foxx – who is up for three of his own statues on Sunday, June 28 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Visit the show’s official site for a full list of nominees.
